Press Release

'Picture Angola 2000' is the second photographic exhibition on Angola by Eleanor Curtis.

'Picture Angola 2000' describes Angola and its people through a series of
contradictory images ranging from aid delivery, land mine removal and offshore oil production, to dramatic landscapes, isolated tribal communities, and portraits of everyday life.

Eleanor Curtis has travelled through 15 of Angola's 18 provinces since December 1998. Taking photographs in some of the most difficult to access and remote areas, she has collected an archive of photographs which go far beyond the stereotypical images of the 26 year-old civil war.

All prints in 'Picture Angola 2000' are gold-toned,

printed on 16 x  20 inch thick fibre based paper and have been printed and finished by hand.

Each image is strictly limited to an edition of 6. Prints are for sale.

'Picture Angola 2000' is sponsored by Sonangol Ltd.
It has also received additional support from Esat Telecom and Quinto do Lago SA. Photographic materials and equipment have been sponsored by Ilford, Microtek, and Contax.

Eleanor Curtis is a writer and photographer based in London. She works with a number of UK national broadsheets and various international papers and journals. Her  first book is being published in January 2001 by John Wiley & Sons and she is working on her second.

She has also worked as a photographer in Angola for Save the Children Fund UK and the UN's World Food Programme. For more info please see www.eleanorcurtis.com.

Following the success of the first photographic exhibition in 1999 - 'Angola, Worn and Torn' - Picture Angola was able to assist with a developmental aid project in Angola due to a significant donation by a private donor. A total of $100,000 went towards a nutritional project in Huambo, Central Angola, run by Save the Children Fund UK.
